From regular storage room to storage for mobility scooters

In three apartment complexes for seniors in Tilburg (NL), Hoefnagels Fire Safety has created a fire-safe mobility scooter storage, in every department. A. o. the battery of a scooter can pose a fire hazard, so parking the vehicle in the living area is a no go. Parking the vehicles in the corridor or on the gallery without additional measures is, for the same reason, a bad plan. In addition, the scooters block the escape route in a panic situation.

The solution was found in converting the storage room (a niche that is present in every corridor in the building) into a fire-safe location for the mobility scooters. By equipping this space with a fire-resistant roller screen (Firescreen® Radiation) and charging stations, the residents of the apartment complex are protected in the event of a fire. And their vehicles are still within "reach"; they only have to travel a short distance to their means of transport. The open structure of the shed (the roller screen is always open) keeps the department's homely atmosphere intact. In the event of a fire in the storage, the roller screen lowers and there is a safe escape route for the residents.

This solution has now proven itself, as you can see in the pictures. A fire broke out in the technical department between the rear wheels of the mobility scooter. The fire-resistant roller screen came down and prevented fire and smoke from spreading in the stairwell.
